If there are two things synonymous with fantasy literature they are maps and character lists. It just seems to be those constants and everyone enjoys using.
Now, a map is for obvious reasons; a whole world has been created and it would be easier to navigate that world with a map. Some are extravagantly detailed while others are bare and simplistic, but they tend to be as common as stew is for a meal.
Character lists tend to come and go. I’ve always included them because I tend to use them as I’m writing. What you guys get is very basic, while mine tend to be short stories in an effort to keep everyone’s personalities intact as I’m working on the story.
Rebel Queen – characters
Many moon ago, I wrote a short blurb for a reviewer who wanted more clarification on the way my dragons are organized. So, I put on my most sarcastic hat and wrote it from the point of view of one of those dragons…and my personal favorite…Socolis.
We’re a little less than a week away from launch and both of the map and character sheet are, of course, in the book. This is merely an aperitif and part of my thanks for all of your support over the last year and more.
Halloween is right around the corner and Christmas is on the horizon. Between them though are two pretty big deals for me.
The first is the Extra Life Childrens’ Hospital fundraiser. All of your donations can be directed right to your local childrens’ hospital, so please support their efforts to make kids lives a little less painful when they have to pay a hospital a visit. The premise of this event is for me to not only stay awake for 24 hours gaming, but to not make a horses ass out of myself too badly while doing it. Around the 16 hour mark, I’ll be doing my usual Sunday thing and hosting Loaded Dice Radio for 2 hours of Derick and I talking about social issues, comic books, games and whatever else crosses our fragile little minds.
For the entirety of the Extra Life event, I will be airing my gaming over the Loaded Dice Radio ustream feed and taking Skype calls on our hotline. So feel free to drop in from time to time and make sure I’m awake, not yelling at someone who just killed me for the thousandth time, or just rambling incoherently. My kid loves to come see what Dad is up to, so you’ll probably see and hear a lot from her as well. I might even play a game of Candy Land and then rage quit when she destroys me as she always does.
Now, the other thing that I’m up to in November and December is the launch of my latest novel; Rebel Queen. I created an IndieGoGo campaign for the release for a few reasons, first to get the word out and second to know just how many physical copies I should be ordering. That winds up in mid-November so if you want a signed copy that the only way you’re going to guarantee yourself one. All of the funds raised there are being used to bring in copies and mail them out at no extra charge.
I spent the better part of a year working on Rebel Queen and I’m pretty proud of where the story took me. It’s definitely my best work so far, so if you know anyone that likes to read, or likes to read fantasy novels, please share the campaign with them. In the interim you can always check out my other books over on Amazon where I have paperback and Kindle copies available of my current books.
Alright. Enough self-promotion. Everyone enjoy your Halloween, make sure you observe Remembrance Day and then get started on that whole crazy Christmas roller coaster.
This year I’ll be participating in Extra Life. Now, some of you know about this fund raising effort for Childrens’ Hospitals and some don’t. So please have a read through their literature. The nub of it is that Childrens’ Hospitals need funds to continue doing their great work.
So for 24 hours beginning November 7th at 11pm EST, I’ll be gaming to raise funds for kids. I’ll personally be donating funds to the Saskatchewan Childrens’ Hospital in Saskatoon. My wife and I have been very fortunate to have had no complications with our little girls, but my twin nephews had to spend some time in the NICU. Kids are pretty cool, so toss a couple bucks in the pail would ya?

Well ladies and gents, Rebel Queen is on schedule and looking strong. Lots of twists and turns in this one, we get to see more of Amesdia and are exposed to some rather interesting characters I’m excited for you to meet.
In an effort to get as many signed physical copies out there as possible, and find new fans who want the ebook earlier than it’s official launch date (Dec 1, 2015), I’ll be using Indiegogo. The reason is pretty straight forward; I’m not trying to fund anything. The manuscript is with the editor as I write this, the artwork is complete, the formatting is ready for Amazon/Kindle…really the only thing left is to get the word out there.
So, please go check out my Indiegogo for Rebel Queen and spread it around to as many people as possible!
